The Challenge / What Was the Ask? 

RTA International initially operated under ISO 9001 but aimed to transition to the more demanding AS9100 and AS9120 standards. However, the company recognised that its culture and organisational maturity were not yet at the level required to meet these enhanced aerospace requirements. The leadership needed a structured improvement framework addressing both operational systems and softer cultural elements, without the immediate pressure of formal non-conformities on OASIS. They sought a model that would motivate staff, drive behaviour change, and build readiness for higher-level certification. 

Our Approach 

RTA adopted SC21 as a self-starter, using it as a structured framework to guide cultural and operational development. The SC21 maturity metrics and behavioural models were applied to measure progress, strengthen alignment, and prepare for aerospace certification. Bronze status was presented internally as a shared company achievement, reinforcing motivation and collective ownership. SC21 principles were embedded across daily operations, establishing a consistent continuous improvement ethos. 

The Outcome / Our Impact 

Key Outputs: 
• Achieved SC21 Bronze as Northern Ireland’s first self-starter. 
• Successfully achieved AS9100 and AS9120 certification later that same year.
