The Challenge
The client had experienced recurring quality issues that resulted in significant rework, additional inspection requirements, and rising operational costs. These challenges had begun to erode customer confidence and risked the potential loss of key contracts.
CforC was asked to design and deliver a targeted training and capability development programme to strengthen process discipline, rebuild customer trust, and reduce the costs associated with increased quality controls.

Our Approach
The Centre for Competitiveness engaged with the client’s leadership and technical teams to understand the drivers behind the quality issues and align outcomes with customer expectations.
We developed a tailored training programme focusing on both process improvement and cultural change. Using real customer cases familiar to participants, the sessions addressed behavioural and procedural gaps that contributed to past issues.
Training content included practical workshops on APQP, 8D and 5-Why Problem Solving, Control Plans, and Gauge R&R, with a strong emphasis on cross-functional collaboration and ownership of quality outcomes. This hands-on approach made learning directly applicable, enabling participants to identify immediate opportunities for improvement and create a roadmap for sustainable process enhancement.

The Outcome
The programme strengthened internal capability and improved alignment between departments. Teams gained a clearer understanding of customer expectations and how to demonstrate compliance with OEM quality requirements.
Participants reported increased confidence in applying structured problem-solving techniques and maintaining robust process controls. The training also improved communication across production, engineering, and quality functions – reinforcing a culture of shared responsibility for quality.

Why It Matters
This engagement demonstrates how tailored, practical training interventions can drive both cultural and operational improvements. By focusing on real business challenges and reinforcing key quality tools, CforC helped the client strengthen customer confidence, improve internal capability, and reduce the cost of non-conformance. By embedding a quality-focused mindset and stronger process control, the organisation enhanced its competitiveness – directly supporting CforC’s mission to help clients achieve sustainable operational excellence.

The workshop provided a solid background to APQP/PPAP and offered a fresh way of viewing non-automotive processes as well. It provided a strong foundation to identify areas where more in-depth training would be helpful. It was great to have a trainer with real-world expertise and deep knowledge of the subject.
